LANGPAN

Mantengu is acquiring 100% of Langpan for R551 million. Langpan owns the plant, infrastructure and controls the Chrome and PGM mineral rights on the farm Langpan 371KQ. The mine is approximately 17kms south of Thabazimbi and share borders with the adjacent mines of Cronimet, Anglo and Samancor.

Langpan invested in a Competent Person Report (“CPR”) which was completed as part of the JSE acquisition and reinstatement processes. The JSE approved CPR confirms a SAMREC Chrome and PGM reserve statement of 2.17 million tonnes and a SAMVAL valuation of R851 million.

Langpan Beneficiation Project

Langpan’s chrome processing plant was valued by Tenova at R83 million and deemed to be in good condition in December 2017 before it was placed on care and maintenance. Given the time that the plant was on care and maintenance and given significant advancements in the technology underpinning Chrome and PGM processing, Langpan took the decision to refurbish and upgrade the plant. In order  to ensure that Langpan will be a low cost, high efficiency producer of Chrome concentrate and PGM tailings, the refurbishment and upgrade will encompass the following:

Fit-for-Purpose: The existing plant was not built to optimally separate the Chrome and PGMs in the process. The new design will optimally perform this separation such that Langpan produces high grade Chrome concentrate and PGM tailings.

  • New proven technology: The new plant will contain new proven technology that will increase efficiencies whilst reducing the operating costs.

  • Increased Capacity: The new plant will increase the current capacity of 30 tonnes per hour to 55tonnes per hour. It is thus envisaged that the new plant will have a monthly operating capacity of approximately 30,000 tonnes of run of mine.

  • Energy Configuration: Langpan will be investing in new solar technology such that it will produce “Green Chrome” whilst reducing the production costs. This investment falls in line with Mantengu’s mandate of clean energy.

The refurbishment and upgrades are expected to be completed in September 2022.
